The task is defined by interpretation – in what way the green belt of city slopes functions within the new system of the future city’s needs. Two basic constants have clearly been retained – the inclination of the slope and the horizontality of the communication paths and general use storeys. Everything in between is the building. The brief puts forth the task of using all areas to the full; the building is equal in all its parts, its interweaving and overlapping turns it into a Cartesian field of activity, placed in a clearly accentuated context. A three-dimensional fracture defines the previously built elements, leaving no room for their formal existence. The strict tectonics of the building link two juxtaposed architectural approaches to a sublime intervention into the topography of a steep land lot: one approach follows the natural topography and blends into it, while the other opposes it, imposing its own presence on the terrain. One edge of the building on the street leg of the ground-floor triangle is entirely immersed in the ground, while the other leg turns into a monolithic wall, almost aggressive in its elementariness. The green triangle of the parcel is built radically, but its original state is respected. The process of scientific cognisance and learning about nature and society is abstracted by space and not by a metaphor: we can literally enter into the ground, into a new stratum that we have created ourselves, or we can take a detached look at it in order to understand it better and preserve it.
